Seu espelho reflete um morro acima tortuoso nas decisões, as muralhas dos silos, a porta semifechada de chefias, a gaiola de ouro autoprotetora nas carreiras, o sempre foi assim, as correspondências fartamente copiadas e assim por diante.
É fácil percebê-la. Racionalidade e eficiência são palavras-chave. Seguir os manuais ou a tradição. Fazer certo. Manuais (ou protocolos) são necessários, mas em sua configuração há riscos absorvidos pelas pessoas, limitadas em seus potenciais de autonomia, direção, criatividade. liberdade de pensamento e flexibilidade.
O ambiente burocrático pode ser tacitamente penoso, embora cômodo para o sistema. Como ilustrá-la?
Pela literatura que descreve determinadas situações da vida com lucidez, livre das contingências de interesse. Às vezes transgride, outras conscientiza. Quem sabe, ambas.
O texto a seguir é de autoria do imortal escritor Graciliano Ramos em suas “Memórias do Cárcere”, período em que esteve preso pela ditadura do Estado Novo. São palavras fortes, em tintas carregadas, às vezes extremas, mas é assim mesmo que a arte nos provoca. Eis o relato de sua anatomia:
Capitão Malta consultou o jornal, estudou o movimento do porto e decidiu que viajaríamos para o sul. Insensatez. Tinham-nos jogado para o norte; de repente, sem razão concebível, atiravam-nos em sentido contrário. Corridas de automóvel, doze horas a rolar num trem, quinze dias de repouso forçado para ouvir as ameaças de um general. E meia volta: andar para o sul, depois de ter andado para o norte. Ausência de interrogatório, nenhum vestígio de processos. Por que se comportavam daquele jeito? Pareciam querer apenas demonstrar-nos que podiam deixar-nos em repouso, em seguida enviar-nos de um lado ou para outro. Exatamente como se estacássemos no exercício militar, depois volvêssemos à direita ou à esquerda, em obediência à voz do instrutor. Por que à direita? Por que à esquerda? O sargento não sabe: indicou uma direção por ser preciso variar: fazia dois minutos que marchávamos em linha reta e não devíamos continuar assim, indefinidamente. Haverá proceder mais estúpido? Estúpido, na verdade. Mas não tencionam apenas revelar-nos a própria estupidez: querem possivelmente forçar-nos a entender que nos podem tornar estúpidos, executar ações inúteis, divagar como loucos, ir andando certo e sem mais nem mais torcer caminho, mergulhar os pés num atoleiro. Um dois, um dois. Se as nossas cabeças funcionavam, é bom que deixem de funcionar e nos transformemos em autômatos: um, dois, um, dois. Dentro em pouco, o sargento exigirá meia-volta e tornarmos – um, dois, um, dois – a meter os sapatos na lama. Ou reclamará marcha acelerada. Não perceberemos o sentido dela, naturalmente, mas teremos que executá-la, pois isto é a nossa obrigação. Claro. Não estamos aqui para discutir. Temos superiores, eles pensarão por nós.
